Reading: Decoding, Building Background Knowledge and Growing Vocabulary
Reading/Language Arts classes will focus on decoding, learning how to read, strengthening word reading skills, building background knowledge, reading comprehension and vocabulary in the broader scope of Science, History/Social Studies.
Writing: Hochman Method ( 3rd grade and above)
We offer structured, detailed instruction on mechanics of writing. Our writing topics will correlate with Science and History content from our reading courses to create a connected experience, expanding our reading content into the realm of writing.
Writing classes will refine writing skills from the sentence level onward, according to the Hochman method.
Science
At Reading Solutions, we believe Science plays a key role in developing a student's broad-based background knowledge. We believe science should be hands-on, based on real-world technologies and problems, include STEM and STEAM learning opportunities. The study of science provides authentic learning experiences, where students are involved in the problem solving process and exposed to positive, equitable academic collaboration where many solutions could be the answer.
Social Studies
Our commitment to including a complete Social Studies program into our curriculum is reflected in the inclusion of History, and Geography at all grade levels. Social Studies is crucial to the proper development of a students' broad-based background knowledge. Students will be exposed to engaging topics in civics,economics, history and geography in authentic learning explorations and discussions which promote understanding of their connection to the world around them.
Math
We will be using a comprehensive program for Homeschooling that is engaging, challenging, and covers all Florida State Standards. We will rely on hands-on learning opportunities, and connections to real life problem solving.
